If you are in, or around, Melbourne this weekend you may want to head down to Federation Square for the global launch of the latest driving game for the iPhone. Unlike a lot of iPhone applications doing the rounds at the moment, the CityGT game is available for free.
In what is being billed as a world first, the creators are giving people the opportunity to play the game live on the big screen at Federation Square. Ever wondered what it's like to play a video game on a 40ft wide-screen? Here's your chance to find out.
It's not often you get something for nothing these days, so I'd suggest that you take full advantage!
Here are the details (from the press release) for those who may be interested in giving it a closer look
The game was created by Melbourne-based advertising agency, JWT, and offers the best driving graphics available on the Apple iPhone for free.
Join the driving fun at the global launch of CityGT at Melbourne’s Federation Square on September 6th between 11.00am-2.00pm. Have a go at CityGT on an iPhone and show off your driving prowess by playing on the big screen.
Go to the City GT website to find out more about the game before it goes live, and then go to www.apple.com/iphone/apps-for-iphone/ from the 6th September 2009 to download the CityGT game for free.
Edit: A video of the game testing at Fed Square is now on YouTube.

BMW have now confirmed that their "World Green Car of the Year" winner, the BMW 118d will go on sale in Australia, sometime in the final quarter of the year. The BMW 118d consumers a miserly 4.5 litres per 100 kilometres, with carbon dioxide emissions of 119 grams per kilometre.
The BMW 118d is powered by two litre four cylinder diesel turbo charged engine delivering 105 kW of peak power and 300 newton metres of torque, capable of taking the 118d from 0 to 100km/h in 9.0 seconds.

The BMW 118d features "Auto Start Stop" switches off the engine at the lights to save fuel and an "Intelligent Energy Management" system that uses brake energy to efficiently generate electric power for the car's on-board network.
For me, the highlight of the BMW 118d is that an environmentally friendly car that looks just like a regular model. No gimmicks and no butt ugly design. If only I could afford a BMW I may consider it.

Time for a serious story. Have a look at the click below, and then ask yourself, is this the worst car chase that you have ever seen in a film?
The dialogue is bad enough, but when you also factor in the top class action, you know you've just watched a real gem.

For the first time ever, a four-door BMW M3 is available in Australia. The BMW M3 is a definite hero car, powered by a V8, 4.0-litre, 309 kW engine, producing 400 Nm of torque and revving toward a mammoth 8,400 rpm red line.
BMW has never offered the M3 sedan in Australia before. There was no Sedan in the previous E46 generation model range, and in the E36 generation, only Coupé and Convertible versions of the M3 came to Australia.

Equipped with the seven-speed M double-clutch transmission with Drivelogic, the M3 Sedan can go from 0-100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds

The new BMW M3 Sedan is priced from $145,000 plus dealer delivery and statutory charges, for the manual six-speed model.

Subaru has unleashed it's Impreza WRX All-Wheel Drive sedan variant to complement the previously released hatch.
The 2.5 litre turbocharged engine produces 195 Kilowatts of power at 6000 rpm and 343 Newtonmetres of torque at 4000 rpm. Surprisingly perhaps, it's fuel consumption is a respectable 10.4 l/100km, while carbondioxide emissions are 247 g/km.
The 2009 WRX boasts an improved 0-100 km/h time of 5.31 seconds, a increase of 26 Kilowatts 23 Newtonmetres of torque compared to its predecessor and an increased boost.

Nick Senior, Managing Director, Subaru Australia, said: “Controlled aggression sums up the MY09 Impreza WRX – it performs better across the board, from power and torque to carbon footprint, which is a major engineering achievement."

Senior said the new generation Impreza range is a winner across the board, with sales up 7.0 per cent to the end of October.

The first official shot of the Volvo S60 concept has been revealed ahead of it's official unveiling in January 2009 and the North American International Auto Show.
The image leaves a lot to the imagination, but the S60 is definitely coupe inspired. "The concept car's design gives a visual promise of enthusiastic driving characteristics and I can assure you that the all-new S60 will deliver a sporty drive like no Volvo before," says Stephen Odell, President and CEO at Volvo Cars.

You may remember him from his tennis career, or you may remember him for his star turn in the romance 'reality' series, Age of Love, but personally, I remember Mark Philippoussis due to his exotic car collection.
Well if you want to own a little Philippoussis history, the Scud's metallic blue Hummer H1 is being auctioned off at Shannons Melbourne Summer Auction on November 24, with no reserve price.
The ‘Scud’ fell in love with the Hummer at the Melbourne International Motor Show and purchased it on the spot, keeping it in Australia while he played the International tennis circuit.
Two owners and an indicated 29,900km later, Shannons say the Hummer’s good condition and low mileage suggest that it has spent most of its life as an urban, rather than a desert stormer. However it remains well suited for serious off-road work, with its equipment including the factory-fitted Central Tire Inflation System (CTIS), which enables the driver to vary tyre air pressure on the fly.
Shannons are offering the Hummer for sale as a ‘project’, as some easily replaceable exterior hardware and cabin trim has been removed.
It is expected to sell in the $40-$50,000 price range at the November 24 auction - around a quarter of its original new price - and is expected to appeal to both collectors and those seeking a seriously capable vehicle for off-road travel and exploration.
The Scud's Hummer is perfect for anyone wanting to hunt down a few cougars.

Edit: The metallic blue Hummer H1 originally owned by Mark Philippoussis sold unreserved for $69,000 at Shannons Melbourne Summer Auction on November 24.

Nissan has released the first official pictures of their 2009 370Z Coupe, which is set to make its world debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 19.
The all-new 2009 Nissan 370Z, the first full redesign of the iconic Nissan Z since its reintroduction as a 2003 model, solidifies the strengths of its predecessor with an unmatched balance of performance, style and value.
As the images below show, it's a car with a strong look, that's sure to win over a lot of people. As you can also see from the photos, the Nissan marketing team love a 'wet down' for their photo shoots. Don't cars just look better on a wet track?

It's been a little while now since I got my drivers licence. To be honest, I couldn't tell you how well (or badly) I went in my learners test. All I do know is that I passed it the first time. That's why I found this new online practice learners test interesting.
I was breezing my way through it, heading for 100%. Then I got cocky. Maybe it was over confidence, maybe I just didn't read the question properly... whatever... long story short, I got one wrong.

So there you have it, 97% the practice learners. Go do the test and come back and tell us how well you went... unless you're too scared...
If you've got a learner driver in your house, and you're freaking out about the whole "getting your L plates" thing, check out the L Site, you may even learn something.
