“Entry Level Supercar†isn’t a term you hear all that often, however it is one way in which to describe the Lamborghini Gallardo. There is something about the term "supercar" that inspires a lot of excitement, not to mention lust! So, lets take a look at the Lamborghini Gallardo.
In the Lamborghini stable, the Gallardo sits just below the Murciélago and was the first car to feature the Lamborghini V10 engine.

The Gallardo was originally designed as a competitor to the iconic Ferrari 360. The Gallardo’s V10 engine is based on the old Audi straight-5 design and is essentially based on Audi’s 4.2L V8 engine with the addition of two extra cylinders as well as a slightly smaller bore diameter.

The Gallardo comes with two types of transmissions. A conventional six speed manual transmissions, and the “E-gear†transmission. The E-gear is a six speed electro-hydraulically controlled semi-automatic dual-clutch sequential manual. Now that’s a mouthful! Basically, what it means it that instead of a traditional manual set up, the E-gear allows the driver to shift up and down using paddles on the steering wheel without the need to manually activate the clutch.

The Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera was launched at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show. The Supperleggera is around 70kg lighter than the base Gallardo model (down to approx. 1,360kg) and receives a nice power upgrade.

The intake, exhaust and ECU have all been massaged to release an addition 10 bhp, for a total of 530 bhp (or 395kW). The Gallardo Superleggera is said to accelerate from 0-60mph in 3.8 seconds. That’s guaranteed to blow your hair off! It’s the sort of power you’ll never be able to use out on the road, but could be fun if you ever got a chance to open it up on a closed circuit.

Lamborghini, we salute you!
