I just got back from seeing Transformers the movie. As a kid Bumblebee was one of my favourite characters. Back then he was a little yellow Volkswagen Beetle. But that was the 1980’s. Jump forward to 2007 and boy have things changed!

Bumblebee burst from the screen as what will be a fifth generation Camaro. If you attended the 2007 Melbourne International Motor Show, then Bumblebee may look familiar to you. That would be because the Chevrolet Camaro concept was on display at the Holden stand.

The interesting thing to note about the Camaro featured in the film is that underneath it all, it’s not really a Camaro at all. What you see on screen is actually a heavily modified Pontiac GTO, dressed up extensively with the Camaro concepts interior and exterior.

The Camaro’s appearance on celluloid is sure to do wonders for the brand. After watching the movie, I have to say, it is quite hard not to want a Camaro. Unfortunately, the Chevy Camaro isn’t slated for sale until the first quarter of 2009.

The Transformers movie is sure to sell more than kids’ toys. It is also bound to move quite a few cars as well. If the Camaro concept was anything to go by, the 2009 production version will be well worth the wait. It's rumoured that there'll be both a V6 and V8 version, in both manual and automatic.

The Camaro concept that did the Motor Show rounds in 2006 was powered by a 298 kw (400 hp) 6.0 L V8 engine and was equipped with a six speed manual transmission. In true muscle car fashion it stood on huge wheels and tyres, with 21 inch rims at the front, and 22 inch rims at the rear.

I suppose you might be wondering, was the movie any good? Well so long as you take a very active imagination along with you, and don't study the plot too hard, them I'm sure most people will enjoy it. Watch it for the action and special effects, don't watch it for the dialogue and story line.
