Subaru has unleashed it's Impreza WRX All-Wheel Drive sedan variant to complement the previously released hatch.

The 2.5 litre turbocharged engine produces 195 Kilowatts of power at 6000 rpm and 343 Newtonmetres of torque at 4000 rpm. Surprisingly perhaps, it's fuel consumption is a respectable 10.4 l/100km, while carbondioxide emissions are 247 g/km.

The 2009 WRX boasts an improved 0-100 km/h time of 5.31 seconds, a increase of 26 Kilowatts 23 Newtonmetres of torque compared to its predecessor and an increased boost.

Nick Senior, Managing Director, Subaru Australia, said: “Controlled aggression sums up the MY09 Impreza WRX – it performs better across the board, from power and torque to carbon footprint, which is a major engineering achievement."

Senior said the new generation Impreza range is a winner across the board, with sales up 7.0 per cent to the end of October.

This is the first time ever that the Subaru World Rally Team (SWRT) will use a hatchback design, and follows a successful research, development and testing phase. The Impreza WRC 2008 will be driven by Australia’s Chris Atkinson and Norwegian Petter Solberg in the Acropolis Rally starting 29 May.

The car features a longer wheelbase, with shorter front and rear overhangs than the previous model. The rear wing is fitted to the tailgate of the new car, for optimum aerodynamic performance. The new Impreza WRC is based on the road-going Impreza WRX STI, which launched in February.

It is powered by a turbocharged 2.0 litre horizontally opposed four-cylinder boxer engine producing around 224 kW of power.
