Do vehicle safety ratings and Wikipedia mix?
Jul 17th, 2007 by Motor Dude
I've often wondered about the information presented on Wikipedia. Who writes it? Who edits it? Who decides what stays on the page and what gets taken down? What is the criteria for something being removed? In my opinion, all of these questions take on greater importance when you are referring to an entry relating to a product.
The other day I visited Wikipedia, and the featured entry at the time was for the Holden Commodore. Being interested, I clicked the link, and read on. Some of what I read sounded as though it had been lifted straight from a Holden press kit. Lots of words about the Commodore receiving "prestigious awards", but next to know information relating to safety.![]()
So, I look up the ANCAP safety ratings and the Used Car Safety Ratings, and put the information together. I don't editorialize, just present the results as they are publicly published elsewhere. Simple. Click on the thumbnail to the right to view the full size image.
So now I have two questions.
Question 1: How long will it take for someone to remove the safety rating information?
Question 2: What does it say about Wikipedia if it is removed?
