GoAuto has today reported that Mitsubishi has abandoned its plans to build a supercharged TMR 380 concept car.
Mitsubishi had hoped to introduce the 230kW TMR 380 as a halo model that would create a stronger presence for the struggling 380 range, but the company ultimately found that the engineering costs needed to meet Australian Design Rules made the high-performance model an uneconomic proposition.
Last October it had be rumored that the 380 concept was set to go into low volume production, and give Mitsubishi a product fit to compete in the Australian "hero car" market, populated by likes of the Holden SS Commodore.

This apparent about face from Mitsubishi is another worrying sign for the brand in Australia, and does not bode well for the future of the 380 in the Australian market.
