New look Audi A4 aims for sportiest midsize saloon

Audi has unveiled the first images of the brand new generation Audi A4, due for an international market launch at the end of November. The new Audi A4
will be the hero car on display in Sydney at the Australian International Motor Show from 11 – 21 October 2007.
Whilst the Audi A4 is not expected to arrive in Australia until around April 2008, this latest generation Audi A4 is being touted as the next car to take up the mantle of sportiest saloon in the midsize category.

When you compare the new A4 with the previous model, the revised version has stepped up in the sports stakes. Audi drive select varies the engine, automatic transmission, steering and suspension damping characteristics to suit the driver’s preferences at any given moment. Audi dynamic steering varies its ratio according to the cars speed and keeps the new A4 stable close to the handling limits by slight, almost instantaneous changes to the steering angle.

The Audi A4 will provide consumers with a variety of engine choices. The A4 will be introduced with five engines to choose from, ranging from 105 kW (143 bhp) to 195 kW (265 bhp). Both the four cylinder petrol engine, as well as the diesels, are turbocharged.Along with a variety of engines, consumers will also have a variety of transmissions to choose from; a six-speed manual gearbox, the tiptronic automatic transmission, the multitronic continuously variable transmission, and either front-wheel drive or quattro permanent all-wheel drive.

The Audi A4's exterior shares much in common with the rest of the Audi range. In fact, it oozes "european styling" both inside and out. In my opinion the A4 is let down by it's "boxy" back end, but I'm willing to overlook that, given everything else on show.
Full Australian pricing and specification information for the Audi A4's are yet to be formally released.
