New Mazda RX-8 takes the rotary engine to the next level

The Mazda RX-8 has arguably been Mazda's most lauded product. It's picked up over 50 global awards since it debut in 2003, including a number of "Car of the Year" awards. For 2009, the Mazda RX-8 is looking to get a makeover, although fortunately, not an extreme one.
The RX-8 will continue to be powered by the twin-rotar RENESIS rotary engine. The new Mazda RX-8 will be available as either a 232hp model fitted with a six-speed manual transmission, or a 212hp model fitted with a six-speed Sport A/T automatic with steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters, in the Formula 1-style.
The RENESIS engine is a high revving beast of an engine, capable of roaring all the way up to 9,000 rpm (7,500 rpm on Sport A/T–equipped models), whilst being around 60 per cent smaller in physical size than similarly powered V6.
Refinements for the new RX-8 include restyled front and rear bumpers and front fascia; sporty, high quality finish front and rear headlamps; and larger exhaust pipes (now measuring 90 mm across), and lets face it, a large exhaust is important! The RX-8’s unique "freestyle" four-door design is proof that a true sports car does not need to sacrifice space or convenience for performance. The advanced design of the rear-hinged rear doors provides a large door opening, allowing adult-sized passengers to easily enter and exit the vehicle.
Mazda have made Dynamic Stability Control standard on Touring and Grand Touring models and optional on Sport models with the Performance package.
Taking a look at the official photos released by Mazda, not a lot has changed in terms of it's styling, which is sure to please existing fans.
