The Ford Territory was launched in June 2004, and since that time has become the SUV of choice for more than 50,000 Australians.
Its launch also created a number of significant firsts for an Australian manufactured vehicle, specifically the first to offer Dynamic Stability Control (also known as Electronic Stability Control or Electronic Stability Program) and the first to offer side curtain airbags.
The revised SY Territory (November 2005) created its own share of firsts as well, becoming the first locally produced vehicle to offer a reverse camera.
"The new turbo models are the most luxurious performance oriented locally manufactured SUV available," said President of Ford Australia, Tom Gorman.
The new models introduced sleek sophisticated luxury styling coupled with enhanced performance. Both have 245 kilowatts of power and 480 Newton-metres of torque.
Subtle visual styling cues, such as the dual exhaust outlets, unique 18" alloy wheels and of course the bonnet scoop, signify the turbo Territory as being something quite extraordinary.
The price of the turbo models is also a consideration which stands them apart from other imported performance luxury oriented SUVs. "The 245kW six speed AWD Territory Turbo has an entry recommended retail price of $53,990*, and the more highly specified Territory Ghia Turbo has a recommended retail price of $65,490*," said Mr Gorman.
"Territory Turbo and Territory Ghia Turbo offer luxury and enhanced performance at close to half the price of similarly styled and appointed European products."
In addition to the high level of interior specification, the new turbo models offer a driving experience true to the foundations created by the original Territory.
An innovative dynamics package was developed for the turbo Territory range. The new package complements Territory's Acutrac Plus handling system, which consists of the Virtual Pivot Control Link front suspension, award-winning Control Blade IRS and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC).
