Saab Turbo X marks the spot at Frankfurt Motor Show

The Saab Turbo X makes its debut at this year's Frankfurt International Motor Show. The black limited edition Turbo X takes some of its design cues from the 900 turbo, but puts a unique spin on the old tried and true Saab design.

The Saab Turbo X carries a 2.8 litre V6 turbo charged engine, capable of 206 kW (280bhp), with 400Nm of torque. The Saab Turbo X can race from 0-100 kph in 5.7 seconds, which is not too shabby at all. The Turbo X also features the new Saab XWD system, that features active management that both splits torque delivery between both axles, but also between the rear wheels.

Saab XWD is an active all-wheel-drive system designed to optimize vehicle handling and stability. The driving benefits of the XWD system are best appreciated out on the open road. Data from the ABS/ESP sensors - measuring wheel speed, yaw rate and steering angle – is utilized by the Saab XWD control module. Rear drive is instantly applied to balance oversteer and understeer characteristics, improving stability and roadholding. All very technical, but to summarise, the XWD all works to make sure the vehicle stays on the road as well as on the drivers intended path.

The Saab Turbo X looks like a solid enough car. Whilst it's sure to please long time Saab fans, I'm not sure that does enough to convince the non-Saab fans to make the switch.
