Shelby GT500 Super Snake set to slither in 2008
Jul 22nd, 2007 by Motor Dude
Pictures have begun to emerge online of Fords latest car from the Mustang stable, the Super Snake GT500.
As you’d expect from looking at it, the Super Snake won’t come cheap.
Even if you have the cash, getting your hands on a Super Snake won’t be easy… did that sound a little wrong?

The Super Snake GT500 is basically a highly tuned version of the Shelby GT500. You might remember the 1967 version of the GT500 as the car Nicholas Cage tore around in at the end of “Gone in 60 secondsâ€. It’s been 40 years now since the “Eleanor†GT500 was released, and whilst the technology under the bonnet may have changed, design wise the 2007 looks quite similar to its 1967 predecessor. Just goes to show that the designers got the GT500 right the first time.

Your first step in picking up a Super Snake is to buy a stock standard Shelby GT500. The base price for one of these is $40,930US (or around $50,000AUD). Then you’d need to send it away and fork out at least another $28,000US (or around $35,000AUD) for the Super Snake upgrade.

So for around $70,000US you’ll be close to climbing into the “base†level Super Snake. This little puppy spits out 600 bhp (or 441kw). Now, you can still “upsize†your Super Snake a little more. According to various auto news sites on the web, a 725bhp (533kw) is definitely within the realm of possibility. Only problem is that it would seem boosting the Super Snake to 725bhp voids the warranty. All in all the Shelby GT500 Super Snake looks like an awesome little ride.
If I ever visit the US and need to hire a car, I might just put the Super Snake on my list. If you're in the US, you may spot one of the Super Snakes in the wild from Spring 2008.
