Sonata SXi Concept Previews a Sporty Sedan from Hyundai
Oct 31st, 2006 by Motor Dude
A feature exhibit on the Hyundai stand at the 2006 Australian International Motor Show in Sydney is the sinister black Sonata SXi Concept, which shows what a sporty version of Sonata V6 might look like.
The SXi Concept is based on the fully-equipped Sonata Elite V6, with its lusty 173 kW all-alloy V6 engine, five-speed Selectronic adaptive automatic transmission and double wishbone suspension, but it could also have a 2.0-litre, common-rail, direct-injection turbo-diesel engine with variable-vane technology.
Sonata SXi Concept squats down on some premium hardware: cold-rolled variable-rate sports springs from F1 and World Rally supplier Eibach in Germany— available through Hyundai Accessories — and classy, lattice-look 19” polished alloy wheels, which frame locally-sourced slotted brake discs & red calipers.
Adding considerable purpose to SXi Concept’s presence is its tailored body kit, comprising front, side and rear skirts and a subtle spoiler gracing the top trailing edge of the boot lid.
The black theme carries inside with black leather trim with Storm Red stitching on seats and door trims and custom black mats with Storm Red edging.
A silver instrument cluster with amber lighting completes Sonata SXi Concept’s inviting ambience, not that it is visible from outside unless the car’s dark tinted glass is lowered.
The reactions of show patrons visiting the Hyundai stand will be used to help assess the potential market appeal of a Sonata model with a similar image.
