The Dodge Challenger circa 2008
Jul 11th, 2007 by Motor Dude
The Dodge Challenger concept car made its first appearance at the 2006 North American International Auto Show. In July 2006, Dodge announced that the Challenger concept would go into production for a 2008 release. The Challenger concept screams 'muscle car', and I'm putting a lot of that down it its wheels, 20-inches at the front and 21-inches at the rear.

The concept was a revision of the classic 1970’s version, and visually the concept shares a lot in common with the 1970’s production version.

Whilst it might have a 70’s vibe, you only need to take a look under the bonnet to see that there have been some major mechanical upgrades. Where as the standard engine on the 1970’s V8 Challenger was listed as putting out 169kW (230 hp), the 2006 version featured a 6.1L Hemi V8 capable of 312kW (425 hp).

It is rumored that both manual and automatic transmissions will be offered, but I have to say that the 6 speed manual sounds like a lot of fun.

The Dodge Challenger is also a movie star. It’s featured in ‘Natural Born Killers’, ‘2 Fast 2 Furious’, ‘Cars’ and ‘Grindhouse’. As a music fan, it wasn’t until I looked up information on the Challenger that I also found it was the car featured in the Audioslave film clip for ‘Show Me How To Live’. So there you have it, cool pictures of a cool car, plus some useless trivia as well.

Cool, very similiar to an old version of Challenger, i think its good that they keep the new design of Challenger very conservative and more similiar to a old and very well tuned version.
The car looks really tough. All we need now is for the Dodge Boys to make the Charger look more like the 68 version. Surely the American public is crying out for the best and probably most filmed muscle car to rear its beautiful head again – hidden headlights and all – maybe even an “Air grabber too”
