The lost art of car parking
Aug 13th, 2007 by Motor Dude
The more I think about it, the more I am convinced that car parking is becoming a lost art. Positioning a vehicle between to white lines should not be that difficult a task. Still, there are a lot of people out there making hard work of it. Take a look at some of these fine examples.
Here we have a simple case of someone approaching a parallel park from the wrong angle.

This one is an example of an overzealous reverse 'parker'. This situation could have potentially been avoided had the driver conducted the recommended head check prior to proceeding.

Here's a fine example of precision parking.
Another fine example of parallel parking. If the space involved was any bigger, you'd be able to fit an old style "B" Double in there!
When I was watching this, there was a point, not too far in where I had to ask myself, "if I were the driver, at what point would I just give up?"
If you haven't seen Russell Swift in action, then chances are you've never been to a Motorshow. He seems to do the rounds quite regularly, showcasing a range of stunts, one of which is his ability to make parallel parking look all to easy.

Russ Swift is freakin awesome, still I wonder how many cars he smashed up while learning how to do all that stuff??
I saw him at the Melbourne Motorshow. He was great, getting around on two wheels, pulling crazy reverse parks. I was impressed.
Lol, those clips are hilarious. Parallel parking is certainly a lost art and people seem to have such a hard time doing it. It is great when you see something like this in person as it can provide some good laughs.
I agree Derek, what I’ve learned from watching these videos is, practice makes perfect! :p
